YEAR 1 VISUAL COMMUNICATION:
GRAPHIC DESIGN WORKSHOP
Manhattan, Kansas

The 2022 Visual Communication: Graphic Design Workshop was held on March 5-9, 2022. Emerge fellows traveled to Manhattan, Kansas to stay at Konza Prairie Biological Station where they spent three full days and four nights. Days were spent learning with Inkscape, using submitted abstracts for the 2022 Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting to design scientific posters, and exploring the prairie habitat. Guest speakers and hosts included Lydia Zeglin (Kansas State University), Walter Dobbs (Kansas State University), and Keith Gido (Kansas State University).

Emerge funded 3 undergraduate students, 7 graduate students, and 1 early career professional (total: 11) to participate. This workshop was co-led by Co-PI Dan McGarvey and Sarah Faris (former Associate Professor, Department of Communication Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University) with support from Co-PI Amanda Rugenski and Breanna Ondich (Emerge Program Coordinator).
