The 2022 Society for Freshwater Science Virtual Annual Meeting was held at the Freshwater Sciences 2023 on June 3 - June 7, 2023 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The Freshwater Sciences 2023 was co-organized by the Society for Freshwater Science, Australian Freshwater Sciences Society, and the New Zealand Freshwater Sciences Society, representing various interests within the aquatic science realm. The meeting included oral presentations, Emerge-exclusive workshops, plenary speakers, poster presentations, and social events.

The Emerge program funded in-person participation at the Freshwater Sciences 2023 for the Year 3 cohort of 5 undergraduate students, 19 graduate students, and 6 early career professionals (total: 30). Two fellows co-presented an autoethnography of the Emerge program, which reflected on the program very positively, and 22 fellows presented their own research (15 oral and 7 poster presentations).
